CA offices provide no opportunity because partners refuse to do so - Attorney Clark Hill Employee Review

Pros

The firm is run well administratively. By that, I mean you know who to contact if you need assistance on billing, healthcare, etc. It's easy to get access quickly to programs you need to (Westlaw, etc.).

Cons

The CA offices are on their own in comparison to those back east, meaning no one listens to people back east. This is good and bad. Ignoring the horrific support of Trump? Good. Partners failing to abide by their obligations (or ethical duties...) to support, train, and provide feedback to associates? Bad. Over 90% of attorneys come into the office less than once a month, and you can see the negative effect of that on the ability to grow. Even the partners who run the offices admit they can't get partners to come in, or do anything beyond the bare minimum. Annual reviews are not filled out, and when you ask for feedback and criticism, it's not given. Regardless of the field of law, it's an insurance defense mill where you won't get experience because you are stuck doing tiny projects until someone else leaves, then you're given more work. Considering this place pays 30-50k less than other firms for the same number of billable hours (1900), it's better to go work at a smaller place where you'll gain experience (even if paid even less), or a larger place where you're expected to bill over 2000 hours/year, but you get a great salary.
