The job spec I applied for was NOTHING like the job I was hired to do. Who even approves these job specs? Completely false advertising that fluffed up a position that was nothing like they set it out to be, none of the opportunities in that job spec transpired
The onboarding left a lot to be desired, no role training or role expectations were set ever set, the whole position was vague and I was never given any guidance on what was expected of me, this made work very difficult considering I couldn’t even rely on the incorrect job spec. On a company level there should be a requirement that managers carry out a standard onboarding, instead information was drip fed to me whenever it was convenient for management which was basically never. They couldn’t have even bothered to throw together a simple slide deck on the basics for me! And forget peer to peer learning, a session was never arranged, I was told “hand holding is not what we do around here”. lol.
Speaking of management, not everyone is born to be a people manager, I frankly had the worst manager of my career here. Extremely patronising know it all, It was clear they had no clue what to do with a direct report, and I had several unprofessional encounters with them. That being said, other managers from cross functional teams came across lovely to me! I think managers should have to go through leadership training so that it’s consistent across the board.
Finally, if the onboarding experience wasn’t bad enough, the way I was treated from the day I handed in my notice told me everything I needed to know, to never look back at leaving this place.
