Pros
To understand my bold claim “best work-place”, you have to experience both work hours and the freedom to “do-whatever as long as you get your work done” atmosphere created by the company’s owners (brothers John/Leo Resig). Sadly, many younger employees have not battled in a major city…at a Mid to Top tier publisher. Here, I have the flexibility to come and go as I please and I don't take it for granted. If my kindergarten-age daughter gets sick, I can stop what I’m doing and go get her from school. In fact, I rarely leave after 5:30. Compare that to my agency days back in LA (and I really enjoyed that job too/great agency too), where the thought of leaving before 7:30 was not even a thought. Everyone worked until 9p.m. almost every day of the week and weekends were usually a 1-out of-2 days spent in the office. In addition, Chive Media Group takes calculated risks. They have evolved into a space that no other publisher thought to go and it paid off. Our newest project is “Atmosphere TV”. This began with the proof-of-concept, Chive TV, which exploded. That led to Atmosphere, the first TV for business platform which now houses about 20 channels. It's now in 10,000 venues with no competition. CHIVE TV has been a huge success and a lot of people (haters) just want Chive Media Group to fail. Bad news, it's not going to happen and they have a massive cap raise to back it up now. theCHIVE itself doesn't publish politics or hate or snark. It has survived and thrived while the other comedy sites have gone out of business and it's time we give them a little credit. theCHIVE is a great creative sandbox to work with solid leadership all around. Most importantly, the owners make decisions based on whether the community will like the changes, not the bottom line. I should also say that Chive Charities has raised over $14 million for the orphaned causes and our veterans. Most employees here have a sense of empathy.
Cons
As the company grows, there are going to be growing pains, but that's hyper-growth for you. They do hire fast and fire fast but I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing to expect results.
