Pros

Could end up doing a lot of hours which meant more money in your pocket. Able to work nights and weekends so this fit well with my school schedule at the time. Rewarding to see students' progression.

Cons

Project managers did not always inform you of bonuses you were entitled to, I was cheated out of $1000 in bonuses for having completed 1000 hours. Some students gave you the run around and would pretend to not be home. Made to repeatedly knock on students' doors who were not committed which lead to a waste of money in terms of travel expenses. No reimbursement for mileage or tolls, i repeatedly asked to work in the bronx but kept being given students in queens. Meant I spent MANY hours traveling without being paid for it (often times equal to the # of hours I tutored that afternoon). No pay increase even for excellent productive tutors.

Pros

Flexible schedule. Decent pay. The company has good values and serves a good purpose.

Cons

Sometimes the workload can be a little much but there really were not too many cons.

Pros

-As an independent contractor, there is substantial leeway to how you get the job done. -Most* of the kids you will meet are eager to learn and their parents are welcoming. -Decent pay when worked to your advantage. -Most* managers are very friendly and at least somewhat helpful.

Cons

-No pay for traveling. Not a problem if you find a student within walking distance of your home. -The DOE apparently puts a lot of pressure on the company to provide results. This can mean getting a manager who is obnoxious and pushy. -Invariably, some of the children you tutor will be unwilling to learn and possibly disrespectful. -Walking through high crime areas ("the ghetto") -Unpaid for paperwork
