Pros

At the time I worked in the company the technology and projects were promising, interacting with some other leader tech companies. A good percentage of the engineers were very skilled, smart and fun. The offices were very good and there was a sense of collaboration across teams.

Cons

It was the closest experience to be part of a frat house with spoiled chauvinist guys. I personally experienced unbelievable situations that trigger all sort of alarms in the first few months such as managers openly cursing people on their back, making awful comments about employees and behaving like bullies. There was a closed circle of friends that managed everything and rewarded or punished people based on their own feelings about people. Once I had a small issue with one of them, my career there was over, I was gone from any important project to the point that was almost harassment. They ignored me forever and I was not invited to any important meeting, decision or gathering. The reason IT works in this company is they don't need to deliver anything or make money at all, the parent company pays for the huge expenses and lack of efficiency, a feature I was almost about to complete took 2 years more to be delivered. Some practices were clearly very close to nepotism and favors to friends. I never experienced something like that and I firmly believe I won't ever experience something worst.

Pros

Chamberlain is a highly variable place to work. Everything depends on what team you are working on. Some teams will have managers who will fight for you and help build you up, others not so much. I have more or less grown up with the company and have seen it go from being owned by a private family to being owned by Blackstone and all between. Every year I ask myself, "is this the year I leave". My answer is usually no, as where else will be better when I am at least in a good position? Summer fridays are pretty great though.

Cons

Yearly reorgs are a constant drag. Some of the most CG-blooded people I have ever known are somehow always the first to get sent to the wood chipper. People flail around and react. There is no forward thought. Just constant reaction to whatever words the executive population utters. We have been 'transforming' for the near decade I have worked here. But what are we even transforming to? All I have seen is us transforming into yet another soulless company. Benefits have been getting crushed. My wonderful and amazing 401k service contribution was ripped away and replaced with a far less beneficial amount. If you aren't on a good team, or have a good manager, your chance for advancement will be near impossible. Constant 'do more with less'
