Pros

Most of the people (especially those on the junior level) are great. People come to CAP full of optimism and ambition for progressive politics. You get to work around smart people all day and you have any number of policy experts at your fingertips.

Cons

Management leave a lot to be desired. They're very controlling and anti-union and it shows. The evaluation process is very capricious and that bleeds over into the process of getting a raise in the worst possible way. Managers are constantly shifting goalposts when the conversation turns to higher compensation or promotion and ultimately this attitude contributes to burnout and drives out a lot of people of color. CAP seems to exist as a revolving door for former White House and Hill staffers who have nowhere else to go when they lose elections.

Pros

The team let me do meaningful work alongside them and cared a lot about my experience/growth

Cons

On the shorter side for an internship (around 10 weeks) but those weeks are packed full so it balances out

Pros

Good community, strong benefits. Some flexibility to work remotely depending on manager. 401k 5% match. Good health coverage. 3-4 weeks vacation depending on tenure.

Cons

Structural and budgetary instability of org. Constant change of team structures. Uncertainty about future. Pay is inadequate and difficult to grow once you start. Elimination of most remote work on 2025
