Pros

Some interesting projects Some nice colleagues and managers Well located (Place des Arts, metro very close) Reasonable compensation and benefits

Cons

Bullying and toxic work environment : petty wars constrain productivity, narcissistic leadership, inane human resources, culture of silence, aggressiveness in meetings, limited team spirit Disorganized and heavy : the rules in place (some good, some bad) are not respected by several people but you will be judged by whether you comply with the rules if someone does not like you Compartmentalized and dysfunctional: everyone works in their box (this may be appropriate but not when systemic problems need to be solved) Bad reputation: only realized that when I left and interviewers said that they knew it was an "odd place" High turnover: there are a few old timers but 2-3 years puts you in the elder category -- Overworked: that's common but here if competent you will be juiced to compensate for failures which are out of your control (this is the expected behavior like you owe something to the slackers) Limited place for growth: to be fair this is a function of size and would be true of any smaller biotech even a well run one Most systems are a patchwork of ill thought solutions: any place with limited capital would end up like this and this could be solved with an environment fostering innovation (not here) No real corporate culture: however some teams appear to have a culture and to care for each other -- Dirty kitchen and carpet, bad computer screens, cramped work space -- If you plan to work there ask questions to see if things have improved - that's always a possibility. Be careful, stay in your box, do not address systemic problems, limit innovation, back your team not principles of fairness and efficiency.

Pros

BSM was a welcoming team. The biggest part of this department is feeling that everyone is in it together. Much like any job the work is hard and tedious at first because there are so many clinical trials but after some time you feel really good about being able to finish your work (accessioning samples & shipments) a lot quicker. One more important thing to add is that feedback is definitely welcome, if there is something that doesn't make sense don't hesitate to ask questions about it.

Cons

The biggest thing which everyone in BSM can agree on is when it gets really busy you get worn out. There're essentially no brakes and we have deadlines to meet because if our work isn't finished then all the other departments are stuck having to wait for us. This is definitely a job in which there is no down time and depending on the person that can be a good thing or a bad thing.

Pros

Good inter-departmental communication. Managers and immediate director to my department were both excellent communicators and extremely supportive of their employees. Work life balance was great and benefits were quite good as well.

Cons

The pharma and CRO space is struggling very hard right now. 6 months after being hired, we had our first major lay off. After another 6 months they made even deeper cuts. Between that lay off and myself being laid off I started to notice many coworkers emails suddenly being deactivated or that they were replaced on projects due to them leaving or being quietly laid off. Hopefully they can turn things around, but I would keep one foot out the door if seeking employment with CellCarta. Other than that, there was always some disconnect between teams in other countries and time zones in terms of following SOPs for data or general urgency. This disconnect would often create an extreme sense of urgency to get deliveries to clients on time that could have been solved with better communication and better team leading and error correction in other sites. Lastly, some programs and projects were not very efficient and created less efficient systems than there could have been for completing deliveries and solving problems. Additionally, these systems encouraged a lot of extra busy work that could have been solved in a more efficient manner.
