Pros

I guess the fact that it’s remote but still, employees are only hired from certain regions

Cons

• Poor pay but ‘okay’ if you’re based in Africa and desperate • The benefits package can be better, there’s no health insurance • There’s a culture of mass layoffs. Why hire so many people if you know you can’t sustain them? And it comes without prior notice • The company is not headed for profitability any time soon which the CEO keeps repeating, which makes sense why they keep doing mass layoffs • The work load can be overwhelming • You rarely get to see your teammates in person (e.g team offsites) which can lead to feeling disconnected or isolated

Pros

The people are amazing - and the work is incredibly interesting, and Carry1st is very focused on hiring the right people from all over the world and directing them to one of the fastest growing and biggest market opportunities in the world right now - consumer Internet/payments/gaming in Africa. Every colleague is a joy to work with, is diverse in their background and highly experienced. The cofounders are incredible leaders that are grounded, inspiring, and hard-working. You are trusted and empowered to do your best work, and not micromanaged at all.

Cons

With coworkers all over the world, but mostly concentrated in Africa and Europe, finding good times to meet and collaborate together can be tricky.
