Pros
Lots of job security. Once you're in, you're in for as long as you want. With the ever changing health insurance field and the demand to keep up/get ahead, most areas can't afford to lose good employees.
Cons
Depending on the business unit, Consumer Direct to specify one, the opportunity for advancement is limited (if not totally blocked). Because Consumer Direct takes the brunt of all the changes, the EVP of CD will not let people move to other areas of the company or promote them. The business decision is to keep people where they are to keep the quality of the work stable. If you are in a specialty area of Consumer Direct, your fate is sealed unless you look for other positions outside of the company. This information recently went from rumor to fact based evidence. For a company that states one of it's objectives is to develop career paths and allow associates to grow, this practice in CD is clearly not done nor will be in any near future.
