Pros
Rather than providing the standard pros/cons review, I thought best to just share my thoughts in one comprehensive review: During my time as a clerk, I had numerous opportunities to actively contribute to litigation tasks and trial preparation. This encompassed conducting legal research in areas where the law is unclear. The encouragement from partners and colleagues motivated me to involve myself in tasks that attorneys might require assistance with, leading to substantial practice in drafting pleadings and other court-related documents. This firm serves as an ideal fit for law students or aspiring attorneys, given the manageable number of attorneys and partners, ensuring a supportive environment. Monthly luncheons provided by the firm feature food from favored restaurants, fostering a sense of community. The firm’s commitment to diversity is remarkable, with an almost equal distribution of male and female employees and a significant representation of minority individuals during my tenure. While attorneys often work beyond 5 pm, the firm maintains a balanced workload for the assistants and clerks. At this firm, partners exhibit distinct approaches in their work and task delegation. Developing an understanding of their expectations can be swiftly achieved by actively listening to their directives and noting their instructions during task assignment. I found that each partner was receptive to offering guidance whenever I approached them. Asking for clarification or guidance is essential in this role, especially given the potential complexity of assignments. The firm’s business environment, clientele, and casework are highly commendable, and my initial experience in a legal setting was truly rewarding.
