Pros

The kids you work with are amazing, it really makes you happy when you see that they are doing better and learning new skills. Paid mileage. You learn patience and understanding. Some consultants are very nice and helpful while they train you to get to know your client. Parents are also very kind and willing to help out during the lessons.

Cons

-it can be stressful to work with your client at times because of behavior problems. Office would close at 5:45pm instead of 6pm as they should so I couldn't turn in time sheets on time and instead gave to consultant. -Getting hours is hard. Seems like they have a preference for certain ABA Tutors, they expect you to have a certain amount of hours yet when you ask for a weekend shift they give it to someone else instead. - got fired for not choosing a shift, when I had actually requested various different shifts but they were taken. I couldn't choose certain others because I had another job and the hours interfered. They made it seem like I never bothered to communicate with them when I had clearly told them I had another job.

Pros

Very rewarding, kids are mostly fantastic and the improvement/interactions you see with these kids makes it worth while! These kids warm your heart and being an advocate for them and changing their lives will make anyone love this job. You also almost always have support in your classrooms which is VERY helpful.

Cons

Training makes this job seem easy breezy. I promise you it’s not. Even with tons of experience you are never fully prepared for this job. It is a fantastic and rewarding job and it fills your heart with love and the kids are mostly great and you grow to love them. However you are dealing with lower functioning kids with pretty severe behaviors most of the time which include hurting themselves and/or YOU! It can also be super overwhelming at times. Joining the school I could of only assumed what it would be like but they make it seem a lot easier and chill than it actually is (it’s not). The turn over rate is pretty bad, most people don’t stay there longer than a year if that and we are constantly understaffed. The pay should be a lot better for the amount of work you do but it is what it is. I’m not trying to scare you BUT I’m trying to be honest with what this job actually entails because no one else will.
