Cons
Capita is a company which has been in terminal decline since the collapse of Carillion, a company similar in terms of size, profile and services, in 2018. It has been divesting itself of companies and products (many of which are well-known and used, such as SIMS) in that period and the share-price has fallen by around 99% from its historic highs. The company's current strategy is predicated on using AI combined with aggressive cost-cutting to make it seem more profitable. The truth is, however, that the company is fundamentally insolvent and, in the last four reported years, the company made a loss in two of them. The sale of assets and businesses helps mask the lack of investment in both equipment and personnel, whereas the obsession with AI is ubiquitous and hardly unique to the company. Reported profits reflect the company's failure to increase pay (and, remarkably, abandoning the National Living Wage initiative) and demonstrate that it has remarkably little ability to produce value, either for customers or employees. Combined with falling revenues and sclerotic senior-leadership, please don't make the mistake I made - please join another company!
