Pros

Salary and Benefits average not super high per IT standard

Cons

- Leaders have climbed and sustained with just one criteria that is Favoritism gained not by skills and knowledge but otherwise - They lack basic understanding of IT guiding principles and processes - Many bullying leaders who scream at individuals in meetings senior leaders behave disrespectful on meetings having large audiences - There is clear conflict of interest how contracts are granted to vendors there are many insiders coming from or closely related to leaders in the vendor company. Leaders bring vendor in support them then the vendor supports leaders narrative but then other leaders with different favorite vendors only keep questioning to show they know more whereas the whole system is broken and only living to answer on meetings rather than doing the right thing - One will be judged the moment they walk in and never given a fair chance to survive even though they are knowledgeable, with great determination and passion for their team and work - People take pride in top down hierarchical management and bulldozing over their own teams for building narratives to present the leaders - Respect and Trust are mere words to pressure others for being in control while the leaders and so called leaders constantly put those at bay - This is most corrupt and abusing organization I have ever worked for where humanity does not exist over egos - HR is namesake they will never help you for anything - They throw something like “Trust but verify” at you all the time but that actually means “never trust” anyone for nothing, even though the person has knowledge and honesty they must only feed your narrative - Everyone surviving either has family members in or wanting to bring more family members in the future

Pros

Lots of opportunities to provide value

Cons

Poor leadership at the C-level. CIO has no control over the direction of the IT landscape beyond what is dictated to her by the CEO and other business owners. The IT environment is almost solely controlled by the demands of the business at the cost of being able to manage and adapt to needs. 20 years behind the market in the adoption of cloud technology. Existing cloud strategy was built by engineers pressed into the role of architects and learning as they progressed along. No automation or DevOps presence whatsoever outside what the platform teams use to simplify their own workloads. Remote work is considered a 4-letter word and is extremely frowned upon as anything other than an as-needed and pre-approved option. Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery are still done using backups and shadow copies of key infrastructure, and those key systems are decided upon at the time the tests are planned instead of testing the company's infrastructure in its entirety. Data centers are geographically separated, but are significantly disparate in what is physically hosted and accessible. Recognition and rewards are overtly encouraged, but are covertly handed out based on the level of visibility and impact to the business and stakeholders. Senior leadership constantly touts open-door policy and approachability, but give off vibes and impressions opposite of the overt policy. The company puts on a show of being diverse and inclusive. Case in point, the hiring of a female CIO. The problem is that working within an 'old boys network' leadership, it doesn't matter how inclusive and diverse the company appears because those elements are never given the opportunity to show their value.
