Cons

Wish I had more good things to say about this company. I was apart of City furniture from Jan 8th 2023 to Dec 28 2023. The company doesn’t handle suggestions/issues very well and will do their best to make sure you are fired if you speak out on any matters that isn’t up to their standards. Company also has horrible, horrible management. We are underpaid for the work we do I wouldn’t recommend working here as they don’t care about you. The management in that job will make the job 10x worse on you by piling up a bunch of other things into your work load and continue to pay you the same with no incentives or bonuses, atleast that I’ve seen in the last 12 months with this company. Very shady company in the management side they talk a good talk, then two days later you are going though some kind of case inside of work. We are grown trying to pay bills and get by in this terrible economy, and their main concern is getting people out with they have a 88% turnover rate as it is. Firing people who do the work flawlessly and replacing them shows this company has no value on their associates whatsoever. It’s truly a shame when someone comes to management with situations, you are then retaliated on for speaking out about what is going on or you have a target on your back. I’ve seen in not only Happen to others but I witnessed it first hand. Very disappointing in the way this company operates I wasn’t even offered a fair case at all though HR. The HR team doesn’t offer no help to the associates only to the management. In the 12 months there I’ve had two infractions on resulting in “DML”(Decision making leave) and this on resulting in termination and both of which were both fought against by me and HR did nothing to help the associate in these situations. Hr is supposed to be for the associates but yet management can get ahold of their personal cells, and get ahold whenever they please. But when an associate is trying to reach out for an issue with management or something just wrong in general they must go though an automated system, and wait one to four business days for a call back. I’m not sure if the CEO has any idea what kind of corrupt system these people running the company have created but it’s just pushing people more and more away as time progresses. Their aim is to be the number 1 furniture, and mattress store but forgets that the team of associates offloading those trucks and putting it away everyday are the highlight of the company. Without receiving this company cannot operate at all. Yet receiving is neglected and treated very very poorly. I wasn’t offered a fair case during my termination process. I was suspended for five days without being told the reasoning and then I was called on Tuesday to be informed that I have to give my statement proceeded to give my statement. Got a call back the following day and I was told I’m terminated, the conversation lasted maybe 10 to 15 minutes with the HR representative offering very little to no help as an HR representative you’re supposed to be for the people so we are supposed to exercise our resources and try to assist or better the situation as an HR representative but unfortunately HR looks out for the management at this company and not the associates. Working hard here doesn’t get you recognized it gets you a target for more work to be tossed into your workload for no extra pay. I was certified in everything you can do in receiving as an associate, and I never even got a $.25 raise just for making the qualifications. it truly is a shame they’re supposed to be up there in the rankings for best career choice yet when somebody tries to stay there and better the workspace for everybody, you’re fired immediately. I didn’t have time to even work. I had my meeting DEC 19 2023, then I was off Dec 20th and Dec 21st, came back Dec 22nd then I was told that I am suspended until further notice/investigation. Got my call back from HR and was terminated Dec 28th for “gross misconduct” when you ask HR and everyone in management what that means they all have different takes on it. My supervisors never even heard of it before. Unfortunately with Florida being a right to work state these employers can do whatever they want and fire you for whatever reason they see fit. Unfortunately my case was retaliated on and I was terminated for it. So if you choose to pursue a career with this company just know you’ll have a lot of issues and they won’t be there to fix them or try to correct it to make it toxic free workplace, because this company will not check management or do anything in the topic just hire more associates rinse & repeat. The pay again is just to low their paying you 16.50 to move heavy stuff, Dressers ranging from 100-380 pounds, sofas from 20-330 pounds, nightstands 80-150 pounds. This is an all day long event and the company doesn’t feel you are entitled to more money then recycling. A guy throwing empty boxes away is worth the same amount as the guys offloading 3-8 trailer loads of furniture, and the stock pickers in the air putting away all that heavy merchandise. What a shame it is. I cannot speak on other DEPTs as I’ve only worked operations. Maybe the other DEPTs are treated well get their bonuses and are treated like human beings not some prison inmates, 16.50 starting and after you have all your qualifications if you don’t get a possible position change, your salary will remain the same with all those qualifications and they feel nothing is wrong. Group 1 is Recycling, OO(Inventory transfer associate), and receiving I believe. We are all paid the same except OO is offered weekly bonuses just like receiving but we do not hit our numbers because management doesn’t inform us if we are close or even just bringing it up during our morning meeting every morning. This is why I said our manager is not a leader he is just there to exist. I wish my situation went a different way I reached out to the CEO and was told there isn’t anything he can do even though he is a CEO and has final say over HIS company. Truly is unbelievable how fast an employer will lay you off and treat you like trash in the process of just working there the vast majority of these reviews are from awhile ago when the job used to be good, I heard they used to receive bonuses, and where treated great before this manager. Not many people in receiving want to stay there anymore and the turn over rate is going to continue to rise and nothing will be done about it. I wouldn’t recommend this job unless, you enjoy getting bad mouthed and worked beyond your pay grade, and enjoy working in a toxic environment.

Pros

2020 and maybe 21,22 were good after it all went down hill (thanks to AH )

Cons

Everyone is related , friends , family etc. HR is all friends with eveyone there for you cannot be taken serious . So many talented associates leave because they are forced out due to personal preference. Turn over company wide they say is low. However the location I worked in 80 precent of people were 6 month or under ! Yikes !!! Management does not know how to keep and lead their team , instead they micro manage , make up new rules that they do not follow after a few weeks and they always seem stressed. Oh and bonus program is constantly restructured . They present it as new opportunities however it’s really for them to pay less. This company always pays very low percentage and you have to jump through hoops that are on fire to make a bonus. And I wasn’t some employee who worked 6 months and quit. I was someone making 90k yearly for several years. This is just a reality. Higher management needs traning asap. And insurance gets worse every year !
