Pros

There are a TON of 'pros' to working at BSC, however most of them are listed throughout the reviews, so I'm going to try to stick to things that I haven't seen people say. I am the type of person who is constantly looking for ways to improve on everything that I do. Every employer that I have worked for has SAID that they are open to continuous improvement, however this is the only company I have ever worked for that has ACTED on those words. I'm given the ability (and time) to create things that provide real and measurable improvements; regardless if they are specific to my role or not. Having the autonomy to do what I do best and help the company along the way is probably the biggest 'pro' that I could provide. It really helps you feel like you're making a difference. The culture is amazing. Every company is bound to have it's 'nay-sayers' and pessimists, and BSC is no different. However, despite that, I have never once had an interaction with a peer (or leader!) who wasn't willing to drop everything that they were doing to help me figure something out. BSC really lives the 'One Team' mentality, and that's the only reason I've been able to thrive, especially with starting at the company with no benefits background or knowledge. Having the opportunity to continue to develop myself as an employee is something that's very important to me when I'm looking for a job; I love learning new things, and as soon as I 'master' how to do something, I get bored with it and I'm ready to learn the next thing. While I've been with the company for just under a year, I've been able to learn three levels of analyst roles, and I've started learning/teaching myself how to do two additional roles. No one asked me to do this, it was a request that I made as I wanted to better understand the system and how everything works so that I can be better at my job. Kindof going off of the last 'pro', I have a desire to learn everything. I am too curious of a person to only do/understand my one role and call it a day. BSC has no problem with anyone taking on additional work, projects, activities etc. I always have the ability to learn something new, whether it's directly related to my role or not.

Cons

As I mentioned in the 'pros', no company is perfect. BSC has it's problems, and I'm sure that there are more that I'm not aware of. Most of the cons that I've read about I have not seen myself, but I also don't interact with a large part of the company so different departments may have a different environment. BSC expects a lot out of their employees. When I was in orientation, we were told that we were an extention of the leaders of the company. Every person has the role to help build and expand the company. This is fantastic, so why am I putting it in the cons? Well, BSC will typically not tell you to not pick up extra work. So people who have a hard time saying no (like me), or people who love to think of ways to fix processes and make things run better/smoother (also like me) you can get overwhelmed with work that you actually end up putting on yourself. I personally love this, but I also understand that it's a difficult thing to grasp. Most employees have a hard time saying no because they want to prove themselves (this is also me...) so therefore they don't want to say no. This can lead to burnout, quick. This is going to sound silly, especially in a world of COVID... however, the chairs at BSC are very uncomfortable, and I have a difficult time sitting in them comfortably for a days worth of work. Okay so the biggest con that I can think of is really only going to apply towards new employees. The training is TERRIBLE, at least for my role (not the onboarding, which was fantastic, but the role specific training) I know that they are looking at ways to make it better, but the people who are responsible for creating the materials don't seem to understand that the entire method that they are using does not work for the type of people that are typically hired for my role. Watching dozens if not 100+ hours of videos of people talking about how to do your job, with zero ability for back and forth with the presenter means that you walk away either learning nothing or with more questions than you started with. There is no way that you can learn/remember everything that you have to know, most people who are in this type of role also learn by doing and not by listening (and trying to stay awake).
