Pros

Used to believe that employees were valued.

Cons

As an employee of Builders Mutual, I am compelled to express my opinion on the company's current state. Witnessing how Builders Mutual has deviated from what it once was is disheartening. Morale among employees is noticeably low. Many of us fear potential retaliation for speaking candidly about our concerns. The recent survey regarding a potential return to the office overlooks that our opinions genuinely matter. Despite our fears, we honestly conveyed our preference for working from home. The truth is that productivity flourishes in a remote work environment. With the proper monitoring and support systems, productivity can be effectively managed for remote workers. On the other hand, being physically present in the office does not necessarily translate to increased productivity. Time is undeniably our most valuable asset. The cumulative time spent preparing for office days, arranging childcare for extended hours, dealing with early drop-offs and late pickups for children, preparing lunches, selecting appropriate attire, and so on, adds up significantly. Not only does it consume precious time, but it also incurs additional expenses. Collecting all necessary items from the home office for the work office is an added inconvenience. Moreover, the daily commute to and from work proves to be a significant time vacuum. Once at the office, the constant interruptions and the need to maintain a friendly atmosphere further detract from our productivity. It is disheartening to leave work knowing that I am now behind on my tasks, especially when I realize I could have accomplished everything more efficiently from the comfort of my home. In addition, this situation leaves me with limited time to spend with my children after rushing home, preparing dinner, and quickly getting them to bed. The workload and timeframes with 100% accuracy make workers feel overwhelmed and frenzied. If the workload was not intense with eminent deadlines and Builders Mutual wanted camaraderie, people would be happy to play around on work time, but the workload is too extreme for this to be a reality. Seeing the misallocation of funds within the company could be more frustrating. The computer systems in place need to be updated, hindering our ability to perform at our best. Additionally, management enjoys relatively easy roles while those of us at lower levels within the organization are treated as insignificant cogs in the machine. Money is thrown at many things that take longer and create hostile circumstances for low-level employees putting out fires. When new things are implemented, try the items and have a team dedicated to the trial. Overall, I sincerely hope that Builders Mutual considers its employees' concerns and feedback. Addressing the issues at hand, such as embracing remote work, investing in modern technologies, and making workloads manageable, would go a long way in revitalizing morale and productivity within the company. In addition, it is crucial to recognize the value that every team member brings to the table, regardless of their position.

Pros

Builders Mutual seemed like a generally decent company with good people. Overall, it may be a good fit for someone who prefers a stable, traditional corporate environment.

Cons

The technology culture felt somewhat old-school and slow to modernize. The company appeared uneven in its adoption of newer tools like AI and automation, and the hybrid work policy created frustration because some employees were required to come into the office while others were allowed to remain fully remote. It may feel limiting for someone looking for a more modern, flexible, and technology-forward workplace.
