Pros
Brightseed has well-intentioned founders and leadership, interesting way of using AI for human health, and do their best to cultivate a "team first" working environment. The base pay is great compared to other startups and health insurance is fully covered. The founders are diverse and they hire people from diverse backgrounds too (DEI is taken seriously here). Though it sucks to have free lunches and travel taken away, it's a good thing that the leadership is being conservative with spending cash.
Cons
Recent layoff conducted on Sept 2023 makes everyone nervous. Even if the company continues to raise money, it's unclear if you and your role are valued. Like many other companies, they might say they value you, but then let you go anyway. There has been high attrition since the layoffs and the revolving personnel makes work chaotic. Others who are still employed are looking to get out.
It is also unclear what the company's path to recurring revenue is. Most of the organization is still R&D-centered and not commercially minded.
