Pros

The people were very friendly and supportive in helping me achieve my goals. They seemed invested in my success. I felt completely fine interacting with and asking help from anyone below the director level, and even some directors. It definitely was NOT a hostile or stressful environment. I did not feel like people were trying to undercut or ruthlessly compete with each other. Overall, I was happy to go to work there everyday. They try to keep employees around when they can.

Cons

Due to its massive size and German leadership, there was a lot of hierarchy which was somewhat annoying to maneuver. That also meant it would be very hard to advance quickly up the ladder. You could definitely do it, it would just take a long time to do as it was expected you need to check several boxes within the company before even being considered for higher level management. The Farmington Hills office was an open-office layout which not everyone loved. Only directors had their own offices, and they had glass walls, so visible privacy was not really achievable. There were plenty of meeting rooms that were somewhat soundproof though, so contained meetings were still possible. It just may not be everyone's cup of tea not having the potential for your own private office/space.

Pros

-Meaningful products that genuinely impact customers and society. -Exposure to large-scale, multinational complexity and cross-functional collaboration. -Many teams and leaders genuinely care and want to do the right thing. -Flexibility and autonomy can exist depending on leadership and business unit. -Opportunity to drive meaningful change if leadership alignment exists.

Cons

-Significant organizational complexity and matrixed decision-making slows progress and creates ambiguity in accountability. -Teams are expected to deliver transformational outcomes without sufficient infrastructure, resources, or organizational alignment to support success. -Decision-making is reactive versus strategic, making long-term planning difficult. -Inconsistency in leadership quality and management approach across functions can create vastly different employee experiences. -Collaboration across global regions can be challenging due to competing priorities, differing expectations, and unclear ownership. -There is a disconnect between stated people-first values and day-to-day employee experience. -High-performing employees experience a high degree of burnout because of unclear boundaries and role clarity and prioritization is not actively managed.
