Pros

Unlimited paid time off Work-life balance Office/work-from-home setting and options

Cons

Bluetree has a hierarchy which makes some people love it and some people hate it: If you are in the "inner circle" and/or a consultant, you're golden and will probably enjoy working at Bluetree. If you're anyone else (especially the behind-the-scenes folks), you're a second class citizen and people will treat you horribly and leadership will look the other way (or be the perpetrators). So, if you're okay putting up blinders and ignoring how other employees are treated as long as you're treated well, this could work for you. If you're going to be at the bottom of the totem-pole, aren't already friends with leadership, or actually care about your company's values, stay away.

I appreciate your honest feedback. As we continue to grow, our structure will certainly continue to evolve. We work hard to recognize everyone for their contributions regardless of role. As of March 2019, the internal teams here at Bluetree scored the company on “Recognition” (the quality and the frequency of recognition employees receive) at a combined average of 8.92/10 in OfficeVibe. The same group scored “Relationship with Managers” at 8.9/10. It seems like many people you perceive as not feeling appreciated or treated fairly do actually feel recognized and have good things going with their managers. Last, I want to address your comment regarding our values. When we honed our vision and values the last couple years, we did so carefully and we’re proud of the values we exhibit as a company. In fact, a recent survey showed that 95% of our employees say the behavior they see here reflects our values. If you’re not feeling that, I hope you take the time to address your concerns with your manager. If you don’t feel you have that option, I am here to listen to how you think we can be better. - Liz Fehlman

Pros

People focus on connecting the day-to-day to what overall the company is trying to achieve (improving healthcare and helping our customers). People are encouraged (and expected) to take ownership of their work - the bar is high and that keeps the best people motivated. Meanwhile, there's not much internal comparison between employees so everyone can help each other grow and improve. Leaders care about doing the right thing and finding the win-win-win (one of the done.better. values) between customers, employees, and the company overall. People are encouraged to be direct, which means "We tell the truth to our customers and each other. We hold each other accountable to Bluetree's expectations and our commitments. We have the courage and vulnerability to have tough conversations, including listening to each other and admitting our own mistakes." Directness as a value cuts out a lot of swirl and shows respect that people can handle issues likes adults.

Cons

Lots of growth, which means sometimes change happens before all the change management can happen. That can be scary or unsettling for some. High performing employees want to grow and progress in their careers. Despite pretty major growth, sometimes it seems like the company can't grow fast enough to create as many opportunities as this caliber of people would want. So that's an area to improve (figure out how to help people grow in a variety of ways even if formal roles and vertical progression isn't always an option). Benefits have some room to grow. The medical plan is a lesser known one that is sometimes hard for nationwide employees to navigate.

Hey there! Thanks for taking the time to leave us feedback. It’s evident in what you wrote that you understand and are in tune with our values – that’s awesome to see, and thanks for keeping them in mind. You, like many others, call out the change and growth we’re experiencing. It definitely can be scary and unsettling, so I hope if you ever feel that way you reach out to me or your manager to further talk through it. Glad to have you on the team and thanks again for your positive words! -Liz Fehlman
