Pros
This review is on the BDR (Business Development Representative) not Blackbaud as a company! Blackbaud is a wonderful company! I stand by their mission, and many employees are passionate about working with and helping non profits achieve their goals/mission. Business Development falls under Demand Generation Marketing , the VP & Directors are all fantastic. They really care about the growth of their employees and are a great support system.
Cons
TLDR: Micromanagement, Unrealistic Expectations, Limited Growth Opportunities, Lack of Managerial Support, Toxic Positivity, Work Politics & Good Ole Boy Network Overall Feedback: This role is a nightmare. If you have the opportunity to work at Blackbaud doing absolutely anything else, do it!! If you value your mental health, do not take this job. If you want to be treated like a human and not a number, do not take this job. Do not take this job with hopes of growth opportunities. IF you survive and escape getting fired due to circumstances that are out of your control, it is extremely hard to move vertically or laterally in a timely manner. Expectations: ALL. YOU. DO. IS. COLD. CALL. It is the most monotonous, mind numbing, lack of stimulation experience. Depending on the vertical/pod/competency you are assigned to...also no control over where you are placed (God willing you get to call customers) you will either make quota or not. Your success relies on others - good lists, good campaigns, good management. Of course, you are just a number. Your quota directly affects your success, pay, and termination. You will constantly be stressed that you will get fired. High activity does not = leads. They do not care about how hard you work, if you do not get leads and make quota, you don't matter. Management: Needs diversity and inclusion. All male early to mid 30s, no people of color. Team leads reap no penalty for members on their team not reaching their goals. In theory, our success is directly tied to others, yet when others do not preform, BDRS are the only ones who suffer (job security, livable wage). Others being thought leaders, overall strategy, etc. Team leads do not care about your state of mental health. Team leads are arrogant, self serving. Team leads have Napoleon Complex. If you LOVE micromanagement, this job is for you. Team leads monitor your every move..you will be afraid to walk away from your computer and come back to a "where are you? message" Team leads do not trust you to do your job. Team leads treat you like children. Retention & Turnover: Constant state of on-boarding, hiring, firing, quitting. They do not invest in you because they know you won't be there long due to the toxic environment of this role. Incentives: You get no commission for sold deals. You get "rewarded" and bribed with amazon gift cards. Bills don't get paid with Amazon gift cards. Team Lead Favorite Catch Phrase: "There is always time to over achieve." Side note: It is suspicious I am writing this review today as I leave this role - and another GREAT review was posted today. Good reviews are likely written by management...tread lightly.
