After giving lengthy and considerable thought to whether to respond to this review or not I have decided that rather than respond directly to each comment I would try to embody what BCM is attempting to do with respect to our employee hiring. But, I’d like to start with saying thank you for taking the time to express your opinions though I may disagree.
BCM is a startup brand messaging marketing agency within the global hospitality industry. While not always successful, our hiring of young talent is viewed as an opportunity for the company to gain fresh ideas and skills from the employee and for the young employees to gain valuable work experience and exposure to a wide variety of business situations. And, like in most smaller startups, those situations can be varied and change frequently. Fortunately, that has been the case in most of our employee situations.
It is understood that these types of less-structured situations are not for everyone and we try to be candid about that during the initial interview process. However, for the right person – particularly those interested in building a resume or learning marketing concepts in a real-world setting – working, BCM can be a great early step forward in building the initial foundation of a career in branding or marketing.
An entry level job with BCM means you will do “real” work for “real” clients. You will not be asked to simply do busywork or run errands. An average day can run the gamut of work activities, giving employees exposure to situations that might take years in larger, more structured situations. However, the flip side of that is that you will be asked to be a responsible employee who does their assigned tasks to the best of their ability, shows initiative, and looks to improve both themselves and the company.
Regarding compensation, we feel that BCM provides appropriate compensation for the work being done and the skill sets being required. That said, this issue is always under review. And, yes, there are certain times when the workload is heavier than others, but it is also true that there are times when the work being done is not so intensive. So, hopefully, there is an overall balance in weekly or monthly demands.
We understand that young people are looking to gain valuable experience in the workplace and BCM attempts to provide that opportunity. We attempt to treat our employees, no matter their age, fairly and with respect at all times.
In short, as a small startup company, BCM is a company that strives to provide a wide variety of business experiences to employees who are seeking to learn, develop, and gain experience. In return, we look for employees who will contribute to the company’s growth and success to the best of their abilities.
Finally, I am sorry that for this one employee we did not meet the expectations. We wish them well in their future workplace endeavors and hope that their next work situation will be a better fit.
