Pros

Some degree of flexibility and working in relatively exciting sectors

Cons

Binatone is a family owned private business. It could not, and would not, survive as a publicly listed company or with any degree of investment where the executive board were accountable to anyone other than themselves. It's business practices are (at best) from the 1970s with an executive board made up entirely of middle aged men. Abusive language is acceptable in open forums and there is no provision for reviews or 360 degree feedback - it is my opinion that this is intentional as senior management know the degree of negative feedback they would receive. There is no development plan for employees and I have never witnessed any internal or external training for any employee in any of the company's global offices. Operating in the consumer electronics sector it is surprising the lack of investment in innovation. The standard business practice is to buy hardware 'off the shelf' and rebadge looking to cost-down in every instance to maximise short term profit with little long term planning. The app and services team have some talent but they are constrained by a strategy that pays lip-service to services, but actually is only concerned in 'nickel-and-diming' hardware sales to big box retailers and Amazon. Finally how Binatone treats suppliers is immoral and close to illegal. Commissioning work without any intention to pay is the norm and is 'joked' about in management meetings. Suppliers are only paid when threat of, or actual, litigation is involved. Even when supliers are paid it is common practice to re-negotiate (down of course) after work has been completed . I appreciate having Motorola can look good on a CV but in reality this company is toxic and best avoided. You have been warned.

Pros

The live chat team members.

Cons

My time at Binatone had its highs and lows, with the standout positive being the cohesion and support within my team. However, navigating the challenges posed by management proved to be a significant obstacle. Despite the camaraderie among colleagues, issues with management, particularly concerning payroll and communication, marred the overall experience. Regrettably, my final salary and sales commissions were withheld, and despite assurances, the promised payments failed to materialize each month. Additionally, the expectation to undertake unauthorized tasks, such as the translation project during my holiday, without proper compensation, underscored broader organizational shortcomings. Reflecting on my tenure, I would advise prospective independent contractors to exercise caution when engaging with Hubble Connected / Binatone Company directly. Instead, leveraging freelancing platforms can provide added security and ensure fair treatment. While my team fostered a positive work environment, the management challenges detracted from the company's potential.
