Pros

- 401K match - Private Corporate Lagoon Day - Private Concert every year

Cons

They are "restructuring" the company and focusing only on Sr. Level, really experienced hires instead of promoting skilled employees from within the company. That's what a recruited told me after applying for an internal promotion, even though I was told that my skills were right in line with what they were looking for. Nepotism is all over with creating new positions for family and friends at director level positions in the company. They don't seem to value the opinions of anyone who reports to them, but have a "my way or the highway" approach to things. Collaboration doesn't exist here, it's just do what management says and never question it or give an alternate opinion.

Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry that you weren't happy with your employment experience here. We're disappointed to hear that you feel you were wrongfully blamed for things, and that your manager didn't value your opinions. Overstock certainly doesn't encourage the leadership style that you experienced. We strive to develop leaders who practice accountability and collaboration. We do our best to listen to and communicate with all employees, and have developed robust tools to do so. Our internal crowdsourcing applications encourage employee ideas, help senior leadership with decision making, and even facilitate conversations with our CEO.

Pros

Fast paced environment with LOTS of hands-on experience with many different tools. The people are the reason to stay, lots of smart and caring people, managers, and leaders towards the bottom of the food chain.

Cons

Upper Management has completely destroyed this company and gutted it. In my several years at the company, communication is as poor as it could be. Bonuses are promised and then not followed up on. RIFs happen far too frequently. It is abundantly clear that this company does NOT care about it's employees, and at the moment is almost seems like they are trying as hard as they can to get people to quit so they don't have to pay severances before acquiring more companies and moving headquarters to Texas. The culture in the days of Overstock was incredible, it made people excited about being able to work there. Now people are hanging on by threads, large teams are now carried on the backs of just 1-2 people without additional pay as we see co-workers get laid off left and right. It is not sustainable. Important things are being missed because there are not enough people to do the work, which will end up biting the company in the butt for compliance and finance reasons.
