Pros

During peak event season you're able to work a lot of hours. You are exposed to the lifestyles of Houston's ultra-wealthy. The work you are involved in is creative and the end results are often gorgeous since event design in the case of Bergner & Johnson is primarily over-the-top massive floral arranging and transforming an event space into an elaborate blooming garden. Since it's a small office, ugly personalities and negative attitudes are not put back on the next months schedule.

Cons

During the non peak event season there's little work. Most of the workers are contract workers. There is little chance of advancement or the opportunity for a pay raise. Since almost everyone is contracted, there are no benefits beyond the hourly pay. Because of the nature of event design for wealthy people, if you are a male, you can forget about ever working in the front office. Clients expect to see a pretty, friendly, smiling female face. I wouldn't call it discrimination, that's just how the industry is.
