Bentley as a company lacks singular vision. It created or acquired great products a long time ago which had market monopoly and is now trying to reinvigorate the company by following some arbitrary "PROCESS" set by upper management. What they don't get is that great products are not made by following process. It is made by hiring creative people in both the software engineering and domain specific engineering department. It is then followed by aggressive sales and marketing. But management has flipped this key aspect by promoting the sales and marketing people; and that ends up changing everything: Who gets hired and what is being discussed in meetings. The focus is now on quarterly earning reports and not what a product may look in 5 years. It would be a good strategy if we made soda or sold shoes or even mobile apps, but we are in a different business. Our user base is different and they have very specific sets of requirements. Management seems to forget that and as a result, the product suffers. The work of domain engineers is not respected or appreciated (through compensation or recognition) and there is no focus on actual long term R&D.
