Pros

-Scenic university -Support from immediate colleagues and other students

Cons

-Witnessed bullying by different members of staff, with no direct ways of reporting this/unclear guidance of how to support staff affected -Funding delegated to projects for junior researchers was taken and spent by managerial/higher research staff -Unorganised departments - often requested IT support/finance support and would wait weeks for proper responses or for it to be dealt with. Also with ethics applications to conduct work, would take months if you didn't chase it up. Trying to access support from postgrad services seemed to depend on whether staff could be bothered to respond. - Reviews of work often undertaken by the wrong/inappropriate staff, e.g., PhD reviews conducted with staff who had no previous contact with students and didn't know their project - Lack of direction from supervisors of what aims and objectives of roles are, what's expected of you, what extra training/services you can access. - Advancing career seems to depend on who you know (which I have benefited from so am not speaking as a bitter employee!) -Have to pay for staff parking permits which are never checked

Pros

It is in a beautiful location.

Cons

I used to love working for this uni, but it has slid in the last few years into a nightmare of financial mismanagement, bullying, endless restructuring, and exploiting precarious staff to an untenable degree.
