Pros

Game testing is a good amount fun provided you don't mind the repetition of playing the same game for long periods of time. The atmosphere was fairly good. People were generally having a good time at work.

Cons

Playing the same game for a long time can be tiresome. Not all bugs that you report are fixed. You do not get to pick which game you test, and certain games are obviously much less enjoyable than others. This is also still very much a job. Yes, you are playing video games all day, but you're usually assigned to certain parts of the game. So say for example you're testing an FPS game, do not expect to be playing multiplayer deathmatch all day. You may be assigned to a level or testing certain specifics.

Pros

Some testing can be fun if you're lucky enough to land on a project in line with your tastes, but much of the work is monotonous and repetitive (just the nature of the job somewhat-not the employer). Free coffee on evening shifts and Fridays. Many good, driven, and talented people (though sadly often exploited and not used to their full potential. Still, lots of good folks, both in contract pool (at least 80% of employees, depending on season) and in senior testing/lead and management roles. Great IT department.

Cons

It's a digital assembly line. After some minimum requirements, not difficult work, which sadly leads to a lot of seat-filling, which is not only bad for the clients and their customers, but also can result in poor job satisfaction. Complaints about labour standards are often met with buck-passing, placating, and then indifference. Poor hygiene standards, only a few bathrooms for hundreds of employees a day, which are also open to other offices in building...often no soap in washrooms, close quarters working environment. Inadequate breaks. No benefits like health or dental of any kind for contract employees. Cutting of hours to avoid OT pay while simultaneously asking employees to work overtime shifts without notice. 40 hour per week Availability without any guaranteed hours.
