      Good For a Couple Years, Don't Plan on More - IT Position Axos Bank Employee Review

      Pros

      Working here does have its advantages, especially if you are young and/or eager to learn new skills. You will get one or two years of fast-paced, intense immersion in a banking/finance environment. The bank is growing and growing fast. If you tend to vote Republican or like Trump, this is the place to work. They have a conference room named after Barry Goldwater. It appears to almost be a requirement to be a GOP partisan if you want to advance into management. The CEO seems like he knows what he's doing and is fairly accessible. Innovation is encouraged from management level on down.

      Cons

      Axos has a unique company culture which tends to put its employees through the grinder and more often than not sends them on their way voluntarily or not after a couple of years (just read previous reviews for further evidence on this.). Do not plan on making a lifetime job here (unless you love Trump and get promoted into mgmt) Management can sometimes be confrontational and often is not politically correct. Entire departments appear to be turned over every two years or so. Excessive bureaucracy due to all processes having to be documented and signed off by multiple layers of mgmt at least once or twice a year, along with the usual bank regulatory overhead. Frequent frustration and confusion due to "Office of the CEO" department, a group of mostly young new college grads who "double-check" and "suggest" new applications/company directions/processes that often conflict with other department directions (ie Jared Kushner in the Trump admin). Bonus structure is in stock, takes a while to vest and provides little additional compensation, despite what they tell you in interviews.

      Thanks for sharing your impressions. Not sure how much insight readers can glean from the name of a single conference room; we also have conference rooms named after Teddy Roosevelt and Ben Franklin. But here's the bigger point: To the degree there is an ideological prism through which Axos views the world, it's not so much about politics as it is about economics -- and the conviction that maintaining a robust free-enterprise system is essential to the American Dream. Our meritocratic culture is the embodiment of that philosophy: we demand emotional investment, hard work and excellence.

      Pros

      The company’s focus on AI and automation was genuinely valuable. It provided opportunities to learn new skills and stay current with emerging technologies.

      Cons

      • Workloads were consistently extreme, leaving employees with no real relief or balance • Employees were expected to work excessively long and exhausting hours on a constant basis • Daily expectations were unrealistically high, creating a cycle of stress and disappointment • The environment showed little regard for employee wellbeing or sustainable working conditions • Burnout became a constant risk due to sustained pressure and lack of support • Leadership showed no visible concern for struggling employees and failed to check in or offer help • Communication and support from top leadership were largely absent during periods of high stress • Colleagues were also overwhelmed and overworked, leaving little ability to provide meaningful support • The overall atmosphere created isolation and frustration due to lack of assistance and empathy
