Poor Leadership Worse Pay - Software Developer Auto-Owners Insurance Employee Review

Pros

Decent people to work with, no real issues with other employees. Low expectations, no real deadlines. Good place to end your career coasting, or to get a year or two of experience before leaving.

Cons

They severely underpay employees and don't really have a grasp on what they are doing. They consistently lose good employees and are struggling so much they are putting people ~1 year out of college into managerial positions. Recently salaries information has become available and it would appear they practice quiet firing, by what can only be assumed is intentional wage theft. Some employees with years of experience are only making a little over the starting salary of others. Middle management is usually okay, but is hamstrung by upper management. They are very much penny wise pound foolish. Auto Owners is willing to hire and train people consistently rather than pay to retain. I would NOT recommend working here for any real length of time, other than coasting out the last few years of your career or by getting a year in to start with.

Pros

Easy job to do if you’re halfway smart and actually try.

Cons

Low salary compared to other companies. Raise your concerns with this or anything else and management basically blackballs you for any opportunity for growth. You can do twice as much work as some of your co-workers and still get the same measly 3% annual raise. You’re better off coasting through the job rather than giving 100% effort. The harder you work, the more responsibilities they give you without any monetary compensation.
