Pros
- Relatively good pay (although most of money will be left in Beijing which is a very expensive city for expats) - Diplomatic ID (for those who value it) - Strong PR and media presence (especially in China)
Cons
- Constant threatening of expats (incl. those with families) who were locked out of China due to Covid-19 to be fired. Even if no flights available or multiple long connections are required - Poor corporate culture and high turnover. Management seems not to care at all about developing employees. Spreading rumors on everything (incl. family/personal life) and harassing colleagues are common across the organization - Very poor quality of investment operations staff most of whom lack basic knowledge; so-called ‘sovereign’ operations are a joke as all the bank does is copy-and-paste of WB/ADB project documents. For private sector operations the bank lacks any resource / expertise - Be ready for micro-management and lack of trust from management - Remote / flexible working arrangements are non-existent
