Arizona State Fair

Is this your company?

Part-time job, why not! Full-time I would recommend somewhere else. - Event Specialist Arizona State Fair Employee Review

Pros

The biggest highlight would be working with my immediate team, the true rockstars of the Arizona State fair! If your interested in learning a couple new skills, making connections, and working along side a team that brings the entertainment to the fair, that's the main and only reason to take an opportunity with ASF.

Cons

The list is as long as Santa Claus naughty list... If your looking to grow your career, a visionary, love the events and marketing field, I would think twice. After the initial honeymoon stage you will be subject to micro-management, becoming a puppet, losing self worth, personal attacks, and so much more...

Pros

Applied for the fair, (interview was not difficult, walked in the door; answered hours I could work and had transportation, and that was pretty much it) was accepted, and was then kept on for the rest of the year to work various events (maybe once a month, if that). Easy work; can be mind numbing slow at times but also crazy at others. It's not difficult work, but is strenuous on the legs. If someone is not nice or generally impolite and rude they are not kept around long or are given very few hours compared to someone who is polite to customers and co-workers. Manners are a must if you want hours! If there is a problem with a customer the management understands that the customer is NOT always right and will generally deal with the problem themselves. Management is easy to access and talk to about problems, they will also deal with internal problems anonymously if needed.

Cons

Minimum wage; paid hourly, they are good at keeping track of your hours and pay. Hours are competitive to work; I've heard that some people depend to work for the fair as their only income for that time of the year, however if you're good at your job you'll get more hours than someone who isn't. Must be 18+ to work any department, however you can work parking at 16 years old (Are able to transfer out after you turn 18). Working parking means staying in the sun and standing on your feet all day; however are given breaks and water constantly this being Phoenix and threat of sunstroke. Working parking means that the other departments generally look down on you because most people in it are underage and/or its one of the most physically demanding departments. Not really an issue, each department are like individual families that make up one large one (the fair).
