Pros

Argus is a fantastic place to learn how to write factually and how commodity trade works. Their training program is really exceptional, after around 4-5 months you'll be pretty much up to scratch and speaking with the market. Depending on which desk you go for you'll also get some really good travel opportunities - but be warned they are trying to cut back on travel budgets. The best travel opportunities are on fertilisers, coal, metals, and biofuels. It’s a very young company with most people coming straight out of university, so people tend to make lots of friends there and there’s a fair number of socials but very few are sponsored by the company. 1-2 years is usually enough time at Argus to then jump up to a better role at a bigger company.

Cons

The turnover is extremely high. You'll find quite quickly that the best/only way to climb up the ranks at Argus is to wait for someone above you on the same desk to take their spot. This is a massive problem because some people get very fast promotions and huge pay rises before other people who have been at the company for longer. There's a lot of resentment building up on the editorial floor around this. Argus is extremely anti-wfh, if senior management had it their way everyone would be in the office 5 days a week. The rule is 3 days a week in the office, and they are cracking down on how much people wfh. Most desks work 11-7 which can be pretty anti-social. Wages and bonus are below some other companies in the industry.
