Pros

Exposure to some great Technologies and IT industry players. I agree with the prior reviewer's assessment of the the CFO - he was a bright spot in an otherwise harsh "dog eat dog", "I got mine - good luck getting yours!" company.

Cons

If you're working as a Systems Engineer at Applied Computer Solutions you're falling behind. Employees generally aren't developed and are left to fend for them self in terms of personal and development. This is particularly true of Systems Engineers who will only get trained if the company absolutely must train them to get additional margin, retain a product line, etc. And then the expectation is that you're expert and should know everything the second after the training is over. In addition, you tend to get pigeon holed and end up a "one trick pony" until the company focus shifts (which happens pretty regularly) and it's decided that they're better off without you. This happened back then the owner decided to dump Cisco for Juniper and ALL the Cisco Engineers immediately lost their jobs. If you're an Engineer who just needs a transitional job to pay the rent ACS may be an option but if you're looking for a long term gig, or looking to hone and develop your skills I would suggest that you look elsewhere. I stayed too long and it's just about tanked my IT career. I am now struggling to overcome and recover from the damage that ACS did to my technical "chops." Please don't make the same mistake that I did.

Pros

Overall, a good company to be a part of. Unlike most other large companies, there is no formal heirarchy, which is both a pro and a con. Small family atmosphere. There are a number of company sponsored events. The owners have a very positive attitude and do a good job to get employees excited about the company's future endeavors.

Cons

Since no formal heirarchy, it is difficult to receive praise for acheivments and explore growth within the company. A number of employees have bad attitudes or are a little too comfortable in their positions, which creates an unprofessional work environment. Benefits package is mediocre for a large company, employee contribution to health insurance is higher than usual and covers little compared to other plans. Communication is improving, but is overall struggling.
