Pros

Foot in the door opportunity to gain management experience if you don't have any.

Cons

The pay is structured in such a way that you will be paid a very low salary and expected to work outrageous hours. It's simply a way for the company to get around overtime pay and cover labor costs for hourly employees. Most of the work performed is not managerial tasks. You'll inevitably be working in the kitchen and cleaning since the restaurant is likely to be short-staffed. You're better off being a server or bartender as you will make more per hour.

Pros

Fun people to work with.

Cons

Too many. Lots of illegal practices and very inconsistent enforcement of rules. I was first written up and sent home because a guest requested a different table from the one I was escorting them to. That table was dirty, so I cleaned it quickly and let them sit. I was immediately written up and sent home. I had a three minute conversation in the bathroom in which I simply stated what had taken place. I was screamed at for “talking trash”. All I did was state what occurred. The worst thing I said was that the situation was BS. No other swear words were used. I think they wanted to make an example of me because I was fired the next shift. I was accused of things I did not do but others had done multiple times with no consequences. The only consistency was their lack of consistency in enforcement of compliance. Any time anyone would complain, it was considered talking trash.
