Pros
- there are a lot of nonsense saas products out there right now. this is not one of them. applause solves a distinct need extremely well and our customers love us. customer retention is absurdly high. product team is laser focused. we are using AI where it makes sense. couldn't be more bullish on product roadmap. - VERY smart space to go after right now. we focus on helping companies in the trades. the product is simple to use and a total force multiplier for customers. i never feel like i have to convince people of the value of our product - it's basically immediately obvious - kind, smart, productive, collaborative team. people genuinely want to help each other. everyone is a team player. it's a high-trust environment so (at least on my team) you aren't micromanaged and you have room to experiment. as long as you execute and are self-disciplined you have a lot of autonomy. - CEO is not a first time founder. he obviously knows what he's doing. he's low ego and genuinely wants to hear from the people he hired. he respects the team's intelligence and value. - whole executive team is just chill and helpful - fun offsites - fully remote - the culture is not 9/9/6 or overbearing. you are expected to grind obviously, it's a startup, but there is balance. solid proof point of this is that a lot of employees here are parents (many with multiple kids) and they are productive and happy with their job.
Cons
- because everyone is so heads down, slack can be pretty quiet sometimes and if you thrive on socializing at work that may be hard at times. this is also probably team-dependent. - we are heavily using AI, of course, which means a single individual is responsible for a TON of stuff. even if you are pretty senior in your career, depending on your team it's looking like you may never have direct reports. this is not specific to applause, obviously - all white collar industries who are AI-forward are trending this way - but it may be something to keep in mind depending on your career goals.
