Pros
The American Red Cross has the most wonderful, inspiring mission in the world. We deliver incredible services to people in need, with a super-dedicated group of volunteer and paid staff. We have the capability to respond to disasters that in unparalleled in the NGO field.
Cons
If you take a job with the Red Cross expect no job security. In the last five years there have been repeated rounds of restructuring and layoffs, resulting in insane amounts of turn-over and a staff that is more worried about their jobs than service delivery. Staffing levels are so low in the field that we struggle to manage day to day activities. Pay levels vs work load are very, very out of balance.
