Pros

Amazing coworkers who are down to earth, given the nature of the work is incredibly taxing on the emotions and requires a special person to engage day (and night) after day. Great CEO who is well-respected in the community (the AICDC runs programs and homes throughout the community, and has also taken on the county detoxification unit when the county could no longer. This creates many faces to the same title.) Flexibility because a low-resource, non-profit, just-trying-to-do-the-best-we-can workplace is going to work with you (until they have decided you no longer fit their prototype, see cons).

Cons

Management that is not healthcare-oriented or versed, non-transparent on reasons for cutting corners at the cost of patients and staff. Inability to report incidences to a trustworthy entity because the upper management is a close-knit triad. History of upper management perpetuating/overlooking dangerous work situations which has led to many turnovers and inability to adequately staff nursing managers and staff (whose licenses allow the place to operate). There are a lot of difficulties that go into running a non-profit, and one that has a structure such as this one, where you are supporting individuals in low-to-no-income brackets, lawfully incriminated, mentally un-nourished, and disenfranchised. However, there are better and more transparent ways to rise as a fundamental resource in the community.
