Pros

As an AmeriCorps member you will see beautiful places and meet wonderful people If you are lucky you will get WFA trained along with a specific skills training As staff you can work independently and if you don’t screw up no one will manage you (unless you are a woman)

Cons

Housing is horrific and can be dangerous Staff are promised skills training and development but then they don’t receive any Little to no diversity! Most AmeriCorps members are young white males and hiring personnel seem to want to keep it that way Men with less knowledge and experience are given promotions over women with ambition and skills If you take any time off at all you are considered less worthy for promotions Management does a poor job of supporting some field crews Sexual harassment Incestuous, gossip-y work environment Sometimes it is hard to say whether the mission is conservation or just making money It is almost mandatory that employees can not have personal lives because they expect you to work constantly

Pros

Giving back to your community

Cons

Major gaslighting within corporation Major favoritism among crew and crew leads People got promotions by promoting in “crew relations”, which yes this is the job. But keep personal and professional relationships seperated
