Pros

A lot of great people work there End of year bonus

Cons

Okay but for real, it feels like a cult - there's this really weird, eat, breathe, sleep ACC and if you take time to have life outside of work, you essentially get made to feel as if you are a total slacker. And at the end of the day, you are just a number. They had MASSIVE layoffs during 2024 and a lot of people were affected both in corporate and on site. Remote workers in corporate forced to come back in office, a lot of business happenings that don't get openly talked about (making them seem really shady and leaving teams in the dark with what is happening), teams getting used by Blackstone to enhance other holdings in their portfolio (on top of their actual day to day jobs). Just overall became a weird weird vibe. I quit because at the end of the day, any work I put in, any strategies I came up with, any long hours or weekends I worked, went very unnoticed and unappreciated. It may have just been my boss sucked at bossing but regardless, it made for a miserable time of overextension leading to burnout and quiet quitting. I felt soooooo relieved to leave.

Pros

American Campus Communities offers strong exposure to the student housing and multifamily real estate sector, particularly for professionals in accounting, finance, and operations. The company is well-established and structured, with clear reporting standards and processes that help employees develop a solid foundation in property-level and portfolio financial management. The organization values professionalism, and there is an opportunity to work with experienced teams across accounting, asset management, and operations. ACC provides a good learning environment for those looking to deepen their understanding of real estate accounting, compliance, and internal controls within a large organization.

Cons

The workload can be demanding, especially during peak periods such as month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes. Due to the size of the organization, decision-making can sometimes feel slow, and cross-department coordination may require persistence. While roles are well-defined, opportunities for rapid advancement can be competitive and may depend on timing and organizational needs. Work–life balance can fluctuate depending on reporting cycles and staffing levels.
