Pros
- Recruitment process has been very nice and not too spread out in time; - Awesome office in Amsterdam; - Very good compensation; - Permanent contract issued immediately (but with 2 months probation); - Once fired, you will receive a EUR 500 compensation (taxed at 52%) #generous - Exposure to the product that is perceived very highly in the market. Knowing how Adyen product works can be a shortcut to landing a product job in payments.
Cons
My experience has been extremely disappointing, and resulting in being fired while on probation period. The reason that has been announced to me was 'you are not inspiring enough'. When I asked to elaborate on that, I was told "Well, if you do not understand - then there is definitely no click and no reason for us to continue working together". This sounds as ridiculous as it really was in the moment. I've shared it here, so that my further points about the company make more sense. - Environment is very clique-ey, and not at all inclusive of the external hires. I was one of the first external people to be hired for my position, and I rarely was included in the chats and informal talks. You need to make a certain impression (you need to guess which one yourself somehow), and make people think that you're cool. - During the first month in the job, you are actually not expected to do any work whatsoever, but to chat with people and build your network. This actually means that you need to get people to like you without having done any work. So you need to convince people that you are cool. - The values of the company (the Formula) is pretty much a trap. If you think a little bit about the items in it, you will see that one can justify literally anything by the formula. Additionally, I was openly told during one of the onboarding meetings, that people are almost never fired because of the performance, but will be fired for not 'fitting the formula'. Considering how wide the formula is, this leaves a huge place for subjective judgement. - There is no standard towards feedback sharing enforced in the company. Before being fired, I had only one session with my manager raising concerns after 4 weeks of everything being nice and good; - No support from HR exists in the company. HRBPs are in general very junior, not accessible and will only care about the management side of the story.
