Pros
You can work as many hours as you could ever want to work. Good way to earn extra cash as a resident.
Cons
Pay rates are completely random. At one facility physicians with the same credentials earned anywhere from $75 to $300/hour. No structure. Late paychecks. Schedulers calling at all hours, day & night, begging me to fill shifts, even crying. They would even call my boss and ask if I could have the day off to work for them without consulting me, first. Long shifts; if next doc did not show up no one would answer the phone to help find coverage so the hospital became a jail at times. If it weren't for the great locations where I worked, I would have not stayed as long as I did.
