Pros

Some friendly people, some free food, comes with benefits, there's an office dog

Cons

Low pay, no support for lower level research associates, do the same thing every day, no management training= poor management, high expectations but little to no mentorship or leadership, higher level positions are protected and excused for poor behavior and conduct, HR is not supportive of medium to low level employees, extremely high turnover, age discrimination to younger employees, little to no growth opportunities in both moving up titles and learning within your own position, bad leadership, inconsistent lunch and breaks if work does not demand you to skip both, insane hierarchy, no feedback, gaslighting, condescending, ill-mannered and manipulative higherups, toxic work environment.

Pros

A really stellar team of scientists and staff, who do creative and innovative work. Institutional knowledge and expertise in epigenetic techniques at a level that is unparalleled outside of a few academic labs. A small but very complete team, from manufacturing to chemistry to bioinformatics. Principally serving RUO and services markets, it would seem that there could be significant upside in the clinical testing space.

Cons

Housing costs in San Diego County rose 56% in two years 2020-2022 compared to growing 5% annually for the previous 6 years, according to Federal Reserve Bank of St Louis data, and have only drifted higher since, helping to make San Diego the most expensive US city to live in 2023-2024
