Pros
(1) Extremely smart and collaborative colleagues who are a pleasure to work with even when under time pressure (2) Working in antibiotics for multi drug resistant infections means you never need to question the importance of the work we are doing for patients and society (3) there is a lot of opportunity to expand your scope, take on new responsibilities and grow your career and (4) Management has been very supportive of my career aspirations and goals, (5) While funding is always tough for small companies, small companies int he antibiotic space do have access to non-dilutive funding (grants, etc.) and we have been very successful at accessing those sources of funds. I've worked in 5 different pharma companies of every size over 10+ years and I have never been happier or felt more optimistic about my career opportunities.
Cons
We're a small company getting close to NDA so there is a lot of work to do and we don't have a huge bunch of people sitting around with nothing to do to pull in and help. Finding and hiring qualified people isn't easy. This means the workload can be heavy, but it also means that there is a lot of opportunity if you are a smart and energetic professional who is looking for a place to accelerate your career development and join a great team.
