Pros
Chance for personal interaction with staff in different departments - HR, Accounts and Management - Usually, the staff are willing to listen to issues that are put forward by the employees. Some of them work hard to resolve the issues as well.
Good work/life balance - Time off is as simple as sending in a fax. However, do not expect to be paid for vacation time etc.
Compensation is good - only if you can negotiate the terms up front. Once you sign the contract, it is hard to wrangle any additional increases.

Poor communication.
Non-transparent procedures and policies.
Poor employee retention.
Almost no benefits.
Unequal health benefits for consultants working outside Virginia.
