Pros

-good salary -good benefits -really nice coworkers -laid back work environment. Job is minimally stressful or difficult. It might be too stress-less actually. If anything I get quite bored. -flexible work schedule and life/work balance. I never work overtime, rarely have to travel, and can generally work from home if I need to for some reason. Doctor's appointments and -Location: Lynchburg has a nice small town feel, and the area is very pretty with great f outdoor activities, close to breweries and vineyards, and pretty good weather year round. Affordable housing, and good public education. If you like outdoor activities, and just want an easy job to provide for yourself or family, and you are occupied outside of work, you could do far worse.

Cons

-poor morale, see below. -uncertain industry. We really should have more nuclear power than anything else, but we've made it so expensive. No one seems to know if the industry will gradually and steadily grow, or if cheap natural gas is going to keep marginalizing us for a couple decades. -poor knowledge transfer. Worked here since fall of 2012, and have seen a couple rounds of small layoffs, most recently about 2 months ago (Feb 2016), almost all very experienced, highly paid people eligible for retirement. Now I hear we are recruiting college grads. So, it's out with the old (expensive), in with the new, but there is no formal system for knowledge transfer from these experts that built this industry. It does happen, and there is some mentoring, but it's not a priority and the remaining experts are going to retire (or die) in the next 10 years. -the normal big-company beaurocracy. Really bland mandatory trainings, overly cautious "safety culture" and seemingly millions of dry policies, procedures, and guidelines. -Location: Pretty isolated from anything "metropolitan." Liberty University has a strong influence on the town. The stores and restaurants are mostly generic. Acts like a smaller town that it really is, and you may feel like an outsider if you're from anywhere else. Far from any interstate, any driving trip will be scenic, but somewhat inconvenient. If you get bored easily, want to feel excited or even interested in your job, or want to do something innovative, probably look elsewhere.

Pros

There are great amounts of growth in this industry. It is great to be in a field where I know going to work eveyr day I will continue to have a job. Job security is important especially in this economy where all of my friends are getting laid off in many fields in different industries. Areva is growing in every way. It is great to get your foot in the door and get ahead of the hiring rush. They compensate you very fair. I earn more than my peers in other fields. If you like travel, the job is a definite plus too.

Cons

I work very long hours for weeks on end. Many weeks are more than 60 hours. You need to be well disciplined to put in this much work and keep your personal life in order. Working this much and travelling so much makes a marriage and family difficult. Many people divorce because of the stress and high workload. If you are family oriented it may be best to stay away from this line of work as you will probably burn out. Benefits are so so in my opinion. I think they could be better. The pay is good, but benefits are very important too.
