Pros
- My Product Manager was a phenomenal human. I learned so much working alongside her, since we were a team of two. - Captains Choice pay at the upper end of the scale for travel industry. - My colleagues were wonderful, anyone who was on the same level as me or in the Reservations team were great to work with, always ready to have a laugh - I was able to develop my skill set - but only because I am a self motivated learner. No one will push you to develop further than initial training unless you want to move up in the company - Flexibility in hours, I was able to start later or finish early as needed
Cons
- Management are non-communicative - The workload is far too large for one person. I had the biggest portfolio and I was the least experienced person in my team. I was given no training for the role, I was expected to just know things without being told. It took me a year to settle into the role by which time the company had restructures and the team was reduced causing redundancies. - CC is a company in trouble. 2019 has seen five people made redundant - in a small team this is about 5% of the people who work in the brand. On top of those redundancies, upper marketing management has since left, along with two marketing consultants. - The environment is very demoralising. Everyone knows the company is in trouble, there is no security in their role. - I requested help in order to succeed in my role about four months after I started. I went directly to the parent company HR department and asked for training/counselling. I was given access to EAP counselling to assist with my anxiety around failing and this was helpful. Unknown to me, HR set up a meeting with my General Manager where I was then put on performance management - because I had asked for help. My understanding was that this would be for a two month period, and regardless of me following this up I was never given a resolution to this. It dragged on for six months. I came to work every day for six months not knowing if I would still have a job the next month. - There is an expectation in the product and marketing teams that you will do overtime. No one takes a lunch break and everyone stays back or starts early.
