Unethical, concerning culture - EMT AMR Employee Review

Pros

Flexibility for part-time employees, some nicer rigs, and pay is above industry/area average. Significant amount of resources and opportunities, from ground to air and beyond.

Cons

Extremely concerning culture. Behavior of employees was consistently unprofessional and unethical - patient care, company reputation, and employee experience suffers as a result. The sexual harassment, disregard for diverse community members, and explicit racist comments were shocking to witness considering the scope and resources of GMR. Co-workers and FTO’s spent more time talking poorly of or inappropriately about other co-workers, supervisors, fire, nurses, doctors, etc., rather than actually being of service to each other and the community. This operation is truly an EEO lawsuit/HR field day, but more importantly, harms the ems industry as a whole and jeopardizes patient care. I certainly would not trust AMR to treat/transport my family members.

Pros

Career growth opportunities, supportive coworkers, opportunities to learn and develop, ability to advance if you stay engaged and work hard

Cons

Healthcare/EMS can be demanding, long hours at times, stressful days, and workload can be heavy depending on staffing and operations. These things aren’t specific to AMR, that’s our industry in general.

Pros

There’s a good workforce here with employees who are well united on issues a strong sense that the company is actually pushing toward a positive future in terms of operations. Ambulance fleet seems to be getting good upgrades and call volume (in most areas) is manageable. There is also a good amount of OT available with bonuses/incentives available. Matching 401k is nice and health benefits are very reasonable.

Cons

For being such a large operation, the pay rate seems to be lacking as of right now. Most employees with adult responsibilities are having to rely heavily on overtime/incentives just to have a semi-comfortable lifestyle outside of work. Uniforms definitely need improvements and training for new EMTs seems a bit lackluster. The morale can be low at times also due to the company being write-up happy (for lack of a better term). Lack of 24 hour units and proper posting locations makes for a somewhat harsh work day as well.
