Pros
Good people to work with- the EMT's and paramedics are dedicated.
Cons
The pay is horrible- we were told at training how to obtain food stamps. The benefits (health, dental, vision) take a big chunk of your pay. Overtime results in your being pushed into the next tax bracket. Bonuses and incentives and pay raises never materialize. Your superiors will never go to bat for you- they are too afraid of losing their jobs. They talk about people who are "different" (handicapped, people of color, those with accents) behind their backs and ultimately find a way to get rid of them for an entirely different reason.
