Pros

The only pro is the cause and mission of the foundation. Impacting and serving a community that needs resources and services to continue to live a fulfilling life.

Cons

A lot of cons about this company. During my tenure here, I have witnessed some employees being fired for no reason. You are made aware that they can fire you at will, but you would think there would be careful consideration before displacing people. I have also seen employees, some that have put in 5+ years, quit because of the lack of support from upper management. The management structure is terrible and there is a power struggle from all those in the higher ranks. This is a nonprofit organization, but if employees are expected to continue to provide high quality care, you would think monetary compensation and the room for growth is there. But it is not. There are no quarterly, bi-annual, or even annual evaluations. So, no raises for any employee on the frontline. You do get a cost of living adjustment at the beginning of every year but at the rate of 2% in California. You'll barely see an effect on your paycheck. Let's say if you are a current employee and you applied for a position at another location that required you to move, they don't even pay for relocation!!! I witnessed an employee being asked to relocate to another location and as soon as that employee moved and completed their task, that employee was fired! There are currently a lot of unhappy employees who are looking to leave because of these reasons. One employee even told me, Michael Weinstein the President of the company, said at an employee conference that the healthcare workers are a "dime a dozen." Yes, the head of the company said that. So, if you are thinking of applying for any position for this company, TAKE CAREFUL CONSIDERATION!

Pros

A real sense that you’re doing something meaningful.

Cons

While the mission of the organization is admirable, the internal culture often undermined the work being done for vulnerable populations. Leadership turnover was constant, with management structures frequently changing and new supervisors appearing every few months. There were often multiple layers of management with unclear roles, creating confusion, competing priorities, and a workplace environment that felt more focused on internal politics than supporting staff. Many employees were deeply committed to the mission and routinely gave far more of themselves than was sustainable. I know I did. The workload and culture made it easy to lose any sense of work-life balance, and there was little meaningful support for the emotional toll of the work. What was most disheartening was watching an organization built to care for vulnerable people become, at times, one of the most difficult places for its own employees to feel valued and supported. The disconnect between the mission and the treatment of staff was significant. Several years later, I still recognize the impact that experience had on my professional confidence and overall well-being.
