Pros
it introduced me to the field of ABA. Training was provided and paid for. Equipment was given to us
Cons
In the year I had worked for aces I had many ups and downs with the company. The first thing I noticed was that there was very little on hands training before being independently put onto a client. My communication with the BCBAs on my cases is was also extremely limited. Often when a behavior happened that I was unprepared to deal with I would not be able to get in immediate contact with them. This caused many problems for me on my cases. I also noticed that the company really did not pay attention to the BIs as much as I felt was necessary. It was very lonely out in the field if you had no cases in office which for myself was often. Work was extremely limited and if family canceled last minute I would not get paid for that day. “Admin work” was really nothing more than usually coloring and cutting paper or icons for other BIs and it was not always guaranteed you’d get it. On top of all these things BCBAs really determined how well you’d handle a case. If you had a bad supervisor on your case you would leave the appointment feeling like you had accomplished nothing and were truly the bottom of the barrel for the company. I unfortunately had one good supervisor and one bad supervisor for the two cases I kept for that year. One of which never had anything positive to say about the work I was doing and on many occasions would talk down on me if they did not like how I did something. The other was what I feel is how a BCBA should be, understanding that we are a team working together.
